The Rub of time
I used the balloons as tools for painting experiments and found myself surrounded by these little objects, left behind after the studio work, their latex skin full of paint traces, deflating slowly.
I decided to record their existence before self destruction –the latex brakes with time– and I photographed them suspended against a white background in natural light.
I explored the poignant contrast between the beauty of the coloured patterns and the delicate aspect of the balloon against the connotations of decay, mortality, carcasse, aging skin, etc.
These photographs are printed in two sizes on Hahnemühle cotton paper:
